Looking for New Board Members
March 3, 2010 - Would you like to influence the direction of a growing club devoted to the development of curling? Do you have four to eight hours of time a month to devote to building an organization that is responsible for providing curling for the citizens of Lethbridge and the surrounding area?
We have several board members retiring and are actively recruiting enthusiastic people to compliment our team. The Board is responsible for overall policy direction, and ensures that adequate resources exist to accomplish the club’s mission. They attend monthly board meetings and contribute to the committee work of the organization which includes setting policy and organizing our Club Bonspiels.
The support of our membership and the dedication of our Volunteers are key to the success of our Operations and fulfillment of our Mission statement. A healthy Board will include club members with a variety of opinions that work for the betterment of the club.
You will find that volunteering can be a rewarding experience and we look forward to you allowing your name to stand for election to our Board of Directors.
For more information contact any one of our Board Members or see Darrell in the office for a Board Orientation Package.
Whitefish Curling Club Visit - Feb 20 - 21
February 22, 2010 - They came, they played they are envious. 12 Members of the Whitefish Curling Club visited Lethbridge this past weekend. They received a little instruction and lots of curling tips from 12 LCC members who also participated in this event.
We played three games over the weekend with the final game a Cda - US challenge and while our Hockey team at the Olympics did not have any succes against the US, our curling teams at the Olympics and here in Lethbridge were victorious.
The US curlers raved about our club, the ice, the staff and the friendliness of the members who took time out of their busy schedules to curl with them.
We look forward to future visits from this club and invites to their "Spiel on the Lake" in the very near future.

A message to the members of the Lethbridge Curling Club
January 18, 2010 - On Tuesday, January 12th the Board of Directors met with The City of Lethbridge Community Services team at the City’s request. During this meeting the City outlined the results of their Facility Condition Index and their Strategic Facilities Asset Management study. The study concluded that exploring a new facility was appropriate.
As a result of this meeting, the Board of Directors met in special session on Monday, January 18th and passed the following motion:
Moved and Seconded That:
a) The Board of Directors supports the initiative by The City of Lethbridge to investigate the possibility and details of building a new curling facility and:
b) The Board of Directors approves the formation of a Steering Committee to represent the Lethbridge Curling Club in these matters and:
c) That the Management Committee be tasked with the recruitment of members for this committee. The Steering Committee must meet and submit Terms of Reference on or before the February 9th, 2010 board meeting.
The Steering committee will be made up of Board Members, Staff and Lethbridge Curling Club members at large who have an active interest in the process. The details of this committee’s make-up and recruitment process will be given to you shortly.
This is just the very beginning of what could be a prolonged course of action and the Board wishes to assure all members that this will be an open, transparent and collaborative process.
Respectfully,
Kirk Mearns
President
Lethbridge Curling Club
King Electric Men's Shirtsleeve - Feb 2 - 7
January 14, 2010 - Entries are sliding in fast and furious for this year’s edition of the King Electric Men's Shirtsleeve Bonspiel. The committee met last evening to finalize plans for the what is arguably the best Men's Bonspiel in Alberta. Where else can you find, Wings Wed, Banquet Thursday, Beer Bash Friday with the World Famous Red Tractor Chilli. New this year is a Soup and Sand luncheon and Live Band on Sat which replaces the breakfast. Yes the entry fee has gone up, but when you look at the cost for all of those activities, you have your money back before you even curl a game and don't forget about the door prizes and the fellowship.
Don't delay register today or risk missing out on the best Men's bonspiel around.
.
1st ChoiceSavings Ladies Open Spiel
January 13, 2010 - Entries are coming in at a good pace and we are limited to 32 teams. We currently have 21 teams entered and confirmed and the deadline for entries is Jan 22. As we get closer to that date we will start limiting the entries based on working in multiples of four so it is very important that you do not delay in entering as you may miss out.
The committee has been working hard and I can tell you now that we have gone away from teams having to bring a $10 door prize. The committee did some great shopping taking advantage of the Post Christmas sales, so we have a good selection of door prizes available. We have moved the Wine and Cheese to Friday evening and are including that with an icebreaker so that will help make the spiel more social.
On Sat we will have a trade show in the afternoon. The concessions will have a no host (you pay for your lunch) Soup and Sandwich special for the teams and we have a nice dinner planned for the banquet on Sat evening. We are still working on some activities for Sat evening after the banquet and that information will be distributed when confirmed.
We are also going to have a Silent Auction as part of the spiel.
I am sure over the course of the year you have all thought it was time to de-clutter and get rid of a bunch of junk. But at the same time that item or those items are too good to just throw away and who wants to have a garage sale when you could be out golfing, skiing or curling. Well I have the solution for you. How would you like to donate that item to the club for a silent auction.
Now, this is not your average silent auction. If you decide to donate an item, we would ask you to bring the item to the club wrapped in a special wrap - the black or green special wrap that you sometimes see used to dispose of other undesirable items or more commonly referred to as “Garbage bags”. Feel free to decorate your bag with ribbons etc and your item would also come with a short description that we would use and attach to the silent auction bid sheet. Buyers will bid based on your description and the more attractive or appealing the description is, will cause more interest and more bids.
This is intended to create a little revenue for the spiel and some fun for the participants and the item or items you donate should still be in a workable condition and usable by the winning bidder.
Your item, once donated will become the property of the Lethbridge Curling Club and then the winning bidder and the winning bidder will be responsible to take home their items and store accordingly.
Please bring your item on Friday as we will display the items on Fri and Sat with the winning bids and silent auction closed during the Banquet on Sat.
We are still looking for some help in decorating the club for week of the spiel, so if you and your team would be interested in decorating the club please give me a call.
See you on the ice!

November 25, 2009 -
The 2009 Edition of the Eldorado RV Cash Classic is now in the record books and congratulations to Team Wolsey - Ian Wolsey, Tim Garrett, Keith Strain and Bob Winter the overall spiel winners. They walked away with $1,200 in cash for their efforts after their extra end win over Lowell Peterman of Red Deer.
A special Thank you goes out to Eldorado RV Sales, 711, 2nd Ave N, Lethbridge for their sponsorship support. We couldn't have done it without you.
A total of 16 teams took part in this spiel with a number of teams from outside of Lethbridge, representing Red Deer, Calgary, Cranbrook and Fernie curling clubs. Of the 15 teams only one team did not receive any cash and it certainly was not for a lack of trying.
Thank you to all the curlers who entered the spiel and for those going onto playdowns during this season - we wish you all the best of luck.
The 3rd Annual Eldorado RV Cash Classic is scheduled for Nov 20 - 21, 2010 and teams that played in 2009 will have first right of refusal.

October 30, 2009 - We know many of you go out for cocktails and munchies on Friday night - why not consider making the Lethbridge Curling Club Lounge your destination of choice. Red Tractor Catering is looking at Friday Night specials, and we are going to start the season off with DJ Music starting at 8:30pm on Friday nights. As we get further into the season we will add some variety with Name that Tune and Live entertainment. The doors will be open to all members and that means that if you are curling any night in our club you are welcome to come out and join the party. The more the merrier.
In fact, this entertainment is part of our plan to put Friday Night and Friday Curling on the map in Lethbridge. So you may want to bring your friends out and start the night with Curling and ending it with a few socialables after.
