Head Ice Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lethbridge Curling Club is a very busy, 10 Sheet curling facility situated in The Cavendish Farm Centre recreation complex. The Head Ice Technician is responsible for the installation, day to day and long-term maintenance and upkeep of the ice and playing area of the Lethbridge Curling Club. The main goal is to provide the membership with ideal playing conditions on a consistent basis.   He or she is also responsible for the daily supervision of the Ice Maintenance staff and as well as responsible for the general maintenance of the Building.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Seasonal, August 15 to April 15 approximately. Exact dates determined annually.

Start Date: August 2024

Salary: To be negotiated. The Lethbridge Curling Club offers a competitive salary based on experience.

3-month probationary period, followed by employee evaluation.

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in curling ice maintenance services and minimum (5) years of experience in making curling ice, preferably 1 – 2 years as a Head Ice Technician.

Level 2 Ice Technician certification.

SKILLS

Experience at managing and coaching staff to ensure execution of work assignments and growth of employees.

Experience with season start up installation including flooding, painting of surface, installation of lines, decals and houses, hacks etc.

Experience texturing rocks.

Knowledge of health and safety regulations with the ability to spot and address safety risks.

Knowledge and ability to complete ice making responsibilities such as scraping, pebbling, and nipping.

Knowledge in temperature monitoring and control.

League and bonspiel draw change procedures.

Basic knowledge and ability to troubleshoot ice and ice equipment problems.

Supervisory skills.

Communication skills.
